Stationery 2.0 at CNA
In a world where everything’s going social (social networking, social media, social bookmarking and social news, it’s hardly surprising that even CNA (an institution of stationery in South Africa) is jumping on the bandwagon.
Browsing around the aisles the other day, I noticed that the section that houses invitations, writing pads and envelopes is now proudly referred to to as social stationery. It makes sense as a descriptive term, obviously, but sheds a whole new light on the stuff we buy from stationery shops.
Every time I buy a pencil now, I’m weighing up whether it’s for private stationery use or public sharing. A ream of printer paper is a little more challenging: half of it will be private (if I’m printing out notes to work from or a PDF to read later) but I might use some of it for presentations to clients or contracts for employees. What about magazines - if I’m sharing them, should they not be under ’social reading’? If I buy a camera, should it not be in a cabinet marked ’social photography’?
I’m probably overthinking it. But my CNA visits will never be the same.

Dude - you browse the aisles of CNA? Who does that?
guess the next step is to share crayons and clay under a creative commons license or something
@nic It’s usually because I can’t find what I’m looking for, but sometimes because I’m keeping an eye out for a new boardgame or the return of those cars that used to change colour in hot water (or was it cold water?)
@aquila hahaha if Heather’s listening, it may be coming to a store near you!
Well spotted, although I don’t know if they fully understand the implications of this new sign.
Please shout if you ever find those colour-changing cars… they were awesome
