Google flattery
Just spotted this result on Google for a search I ran:

The description looked a little like those wonderfully personalised spam mailers that start off with, “Dear %first_name% ” and deserved a little digging.
Here’s what the meta description tag looks like in the page’s source code:

Obviously the copyrwriter or coder who worked on this page had good intentions. It’s just a pity that no one got around to inserting the “1-2 sentences”. As for the Googlebot that crawled this page, it clearly didn’t mind this little instance of meta tag flattery ![]()
